Princess here is depicted with the henna lady.
The henna lady would often bring news from other households, especially that of news of ones beloved. Here they are wearing henna on their fingertips and bottoms of feet- oftern seen in paintings from 1400-1800's. It would cool the body and leave it beautifully colored.
Designs didnt seem as important as dipped fingers and feet. Perhaps the cooling effect was more sought after.
