People seek out Hannayas for sacred rites. One such rite is the blessing
of a woman during pregnancy.In her latter months of
pregnancy, she is considered "spiritually vulnerable" and henna is
applied as a protective talisman.
Here in The LI/NYC area where i work as a henna artist, Mommy Mandalas have developed as a way to celebrate this time in a pregnancy.
It's a time to celebrate and care for the expectant Mother, and enjoy an art form that is soothing and gentle, mysterious and beautiful.
